But, as a parent, how do you motivate your child to agree to cooperate when help is provided?

Motivational Interviewing

What is the MI method, and how do I employ this method of reasoning with my child?

Motivational interviewing for adolescents is a strength based approach that elicits change talk, this approach helps young people find their specific motivation to make positive changes in their behavior. Instead of telling them what to do, the counselor or coach listens, asks questions, and guides the conversation to help the adolescent identify their own reasons for wanting to change. This method respects the adolescent's autonomy and empowers them to make decisions that elicit positive change.

Motivational interviewing for adolescents, when used by a parent, involves having open and supportive conversations with their teen to help them think about and decide on positive changes. Instead of lecturing or giving advice, the parent asks thoughtful questions, listens carefully, and helps their teen explore their own reasons for wanting to make better choices. This approach encourages the teen to take ownership of their decisions and feel more motivated to make healthy changes.

Why Our Clients Trust Us:

I cannot fully express the gratitude I feel for our one on one sessions! My daughters benefited from the program in addressing their persistent anxiety issues. They learned so much about how the thought process works, how it relates to anxiety and fear and most important how to retrain it. It was also discovered that one of my daughters had an auditory sensory issue. Addressing this had a huge impact on how she was able to move forward. The practical tools we were provided with we still use, although it’s been well over a year now. Thank you again as a mother of two I am extremely appreciative for what this has done for my girls.

Mother of Two

As a parent I often think of how through these sessions my daughter learned how to question the internal negative thought process that was running in there for so long. She learned how to retrain it. It is still a work in progress but now she has a concept of the process and can finally move forward. I see that she has come to value and respect her own worth more than ever, simply by stopping the negative process that was on auto pilot for so long and replacing it with a healthy systematic practice. Thanks so much for the time that was spent with her. And all of this through Zoom!
